Description
For Your Bidding Consideration: An Extremely Rare WW II 48 Star American Flag! Fresh out of an estate of the Grand Nephew of the fallen soldier. Passed down through the generations. This flag hasn't seen the light of day for many years, was in storage for 73 years until now! The fallen soldier was a man by the name of BERNARD SETTLER. Mr. Settler was a U.S. Army Medic. A True American "Hero", killed in action. Was told he served in the Battle of Bastogne. The Battle of Bastogne was the largest WW II Battle Engagement for the United States Army. Bernard Settler was from the state of Illinois. Under President Roosevelt this flag was given to the surviving family members sometime between the years of 1941 - 1945. Mr. Bernard Settler was deemed a Gold Star Family Recipient, under this program the U.S. Government presented this rare flag to the surviving family members.Mr. Settler is a listed fallen American Soldier under the Gold Star Family on the internet.
In the original U.S. Government issued red vinyl storage bag. The flag measures 4' 8" in width by 7' 2" in length. Has a very impressive solid brass gold colored Eagle topside of the staff. The wood staff comes in two pieces. You connect the two wood staff pieces together with solid brass fittings. The connection fittings have a nice aged patina appearance. The total length of the wood staff from the bottom to the top of the brass eagle is 9' 6 1/2". Truly an awesome piece of American History! This flag and staff should be in a Military Museum in my opinion. Truly deserves a good home! Please read the slight condition issues above. A fantastic opportunity to acquire a magnificent piece of American History. Will be shipped safely to reach your door, in a custom heavy duty corrugated shipping tube or can be picked up at no charge. Will be fully insured.
