CATALINA POTTERY OXBLOOD VASE BY GLADDING McBEAN, 9-1/4," DEEP RICH COLOR, MINT

Here's a really pretty Catalina Pottery OXBLOOD vase from Gladding McBean and probably of about 1938 vintage The piece is just around 9-1/4" tall with a squat lower half and a long narrower neck with a widely flaring top. At the middle, the vase is about 5" at widest, but the neck flairs to about 5-1/2" at top.  I've collected this pattern for nearly 50 years and have had many but only a couple in this shape.  There are, I think, 5 pieces in the line that are quite scarce including 3 with wildly flaring tops and while this is one of those, it is the least exotic of the three.  All pieces in the line vary somewhat in coloration, but most have a subtle, but gradual darkening of the gorgeous oxblood color from top to bottom. In that respect, this piece is unusual in that the color is almost uniformly dark (darker in reality than it would seem from the pictures) from the top down, somewhat darker at the bottom, but still pretty uniform.  A scarce piece and right out of my own collection. It has a good CATALINA POTTERY ink stamp on the base. Great piece.
