"GOODRICH RUBBER" SALESMAN SAMPLE DISPLAY SIGN
- Approx. 1930s or before. 14" x 11". Blue & black litho on cardboard.
This exceptional display was an informative salesman sample offered to prospective distributers of "Goodrich Hi-Press Footwear" (boots). It features actual raw rubber samples to educate clients on Goodrich rubber production. Sample swatches include Smoked Plantation Crepe (East Indies), Crude Para (Brazil), Washed Para, etc.
Display also includes a miniature "Goodrich Hi-Press" boot (marked "The Finished Product").
Various b&w photos illustrate the exotic locations for step-by-step rubber manufacturing (Malayan native growers, East Indies rubber tree plantations, Brazilian Amazon River trader depot, etc.).
There's also a great bird's-eye view photo of the B.F. Goodrich Factories in Akron, Ohio.
B.F. Goodrich is best known for it's automobile tires.
A unique advertising display with excellent eye appeal.
Condition is considered FAIR with miscellaneous surface/stain/edge wear. Misc. surface / corner dog-ear creasing with several moderate edge tears (largest tear being approx. 3/8"). One 1/2" lower right corner chip with lower left and upper right corners creased & torn. Two pieces of vintage clear tape on BACK side for diagonal corner tear reinforcement. Samples are still well adhered to cardboard backing. Several moderate surface cracks on rubber boot sample.
Despite obvious defects, we feel the graphic integrity of the imagery is quite nice. Overall, we feel this unusual early piece is still in very displayable condition by most standards (see photos).
It would make a scarce find for the VINTAGE SALESMAN SAMPLE and/or B.F. GOODRICH ADVERTISING MEMORABILIA enthusiast. On a condition code scale of 1 to 10, the above listed item(s) rated - (6).
